Old-time Fiddling 101 (Southern Style): Teacher: Erynn Marshall

This class will be an introduction to Appalachian style fiddling which is the living tradition found in Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. The focus will be on learning by ear, old-time bowing patterns & basic ornamentation, exploring what makes this fiddle style different from others. We'll even delve into some historical background and Appalachian folklore! Everyone welcome. Come participate or listen! We will learn a tune or two by ear that you'll enjoy playing for years to come.

Mountain Music: Blues and Breakdowns (Int-Adv): Erynn Marshall

If you've ever been interested to learn some of those lonesome, modal or fiery old-time tunes or are interested in some of the intriguing alternate tunings on the fiddle – this is the class for you! I will demonstrate more intricate bowing patterns, left-hand ornamentation, violin tunings and regional styles associated with Southern style fiddling. This class will suit both intermediate and advanced fiddlers. Rosin up your bow and get ready to fiddle!
